Workers' Wages

Sir,

As reported in “Rail Mazdoor”, the magazine of the NRMU, Mr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia thinks that railway workers are getting too much salary! According to him, a take home salary of Rs. 10,000 is too much for workers who have to stay in one room tenements.

It is with indignation we learn that Montek Singh Ahluwalia has opposed the increase in railway workers’ salary. He feels that it is too much already. It is very strange how Mr. Montek Singh thinks like that. His house, the food he eats, the cars he gets driven around in, the army of his servants, the hotels he stays in, the planes in which he flies – total up his daily expenses and they will add up to more than more than 4-5 workers’ monthly salary. But he obviously does not feel that his own salary is too much. Mr. Montek Singh is one of the most trusted advisors to our prime minister.

The struggle of the workers for the 6th pay commission should be increased and the attempts to privatize and give the jobs on contract should be stopped.

A railway worker,
Kalwe, Thane
