Central PSUs to go on countrywide strike

On May 7, 2008, lakhs of workers of the Public Sector undertakings will go on a 1 day strike in support of their demands. This was announced by the meeting of the Committee of Central Public Sector Undertakings on February 17-18 in Hyderabad. The strike will be preceded by a phased program of campaign and agitation around their demands.

The main demands raised by the PSU workers are:

  • No to disinvestment / privatization and contractorisation or outsourcing in PSU’s.
  • There should be a revised wage agreement. The term of wage agreement should not be more than five years. The wage differential between workers and executives has turned against workers in the last agreement. It must now be changed in favour of workers.
  • Wages of contract workers in PSUs must be raised, to ensure at least minimum wage, as well as all benefits that are provided to permanent workers.
  • Financial and policy support for revival of sick PSUs and wage revision for concerned employees.
  • Filling up of all vacancies for workmen category in PSUs through fresh recruitment of regular employees.

People's Voice extends its support to the PSU workers.
