Drawing inspiration from Bhagat Singh's life and deeds

Dear Editor,

I thank you for carrying the statement of the Central Committee of the CGPI entitled ``The life and struggle of Shahid Bhagat Singh continue to inspire’’. It is a timely statement coming at the time of the centenary of the birth of this great martyr and visionary. It is hard to believe that he gave up his life for the cause of the liberation of India at the tender age of twenty four. It must also be remembered that he was not alone in his vision; two of his beloved comrades that he called his `brothers’ also ascended the gallows with him. Many hundreds of others had been inspired at that time to take up the path of revolutionary struggle to liberate the Indian people from the clutches of imperial bondage. Such stories abound in the folklore.

It is also an opportune time to reflect on what his life and deeds mean and what lessons are to be derived. It is a fact that the people of India continue to live in conditions of bondage under the jackboots of brown sahibs. It is also a fact that during the last 60 years countless revolutionaries have risen to overthrow the conditions of this new bondage, but thus far there has been only limited success. Bhagat Singh and myriad others recognized that liberation lies only in the science of Marxism-Leninism as discussed in the statement. Many names continue to resound in the far corners of the country, such as those of Com. Charu Mazumdar, Saroj Dutta and others.

I believe that this is also an opportunity to settle scores with the compromisers and the traitors in the revolutionary camp. When it was clear to a young man of twenty-four what the nature of the beast is, why then do these traitors continue to pull the wool over the eyes of the workers and toilers? Let us call for the end to compromise with the parasites and the exploiters and work towards strengthening the movement towards revolution. I wish to echo the call of `Long Live the Revolution’ in the statement.

Sincerely, A. Narayan
Bangalore
