Meeting in Delhi discusses challenge before working class

Representatives of a number of trade unions and workers organisations met in New Delhi on August 26-27 to discuss the challenges facing the working class and what needs to be done to assist the workers to meet this challenge effectively. Representatives of the Communist Ghadar Party of India and the Mazdoor Ekta Committee participated in the deliberations.

The meeting noted that the Central Trade Unions, after a long time, had finally given a call for a country wide action plan culminating in a all India strike in December. The issues that were being raised by these Central Trade Unions were in general the immediate concerns of the class. We must all actively intervene in this action program to raise the consciousness of the workers, as well as their level of organisation, so that class does not remain a tail of the parliamentary calculations of those in the communist movement who are conciliating with social democracy During the meeting, various positive suggestions came including the necessity to establish councils of workers inside the factories and workplaces wherever possible, consisting of the most staunch fighters of the class. It was discussed that there was need to build an All India Workers Council in which the most militant class conscious workers from different sectors of the economy and different regions will militate in. It was agreed that the next preparatory meeting would be held in Maharashtra sometime in January 2007.
